A wonderful stater from Thebes pedigreed to 1933

BOEOTIA. Thebes. Circa 390-382 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 12.23 g), Wast..., magistrate. Boeotian shield. Rev. FA-ΣT Amphora; above, ivy branch with three leaves and berries; all within round incuse. BCD Boeotia 496. BMC 122. Hepworth 38. Winterthur 1915. Beautifully toned and with an exceptionally sharp and attractive reverse. The obverse struck somewhat off center and with a minor flan fault, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From the collection of Regierungsrat Dr. iur. Hans Krähenbühl, privately acquired from Bank Leu or Münzen & Medaillen AG and the respective invoice settled on 3 November 1966 (with a photocopy of the original payment receipt enclosed), ex Ars Classica XVI, 3 July 1933, 1159.
